USANA: How it All Started
USANA was founded and developed by an immunologist and microbiologist Myron Wentz. It is based in Salt Lake City, Utah. The company uses a marketing strategy on selling its products through multilevel marketing: wherein associates, marketers and distributors recruit other associates and at the same time recruit others individuals to sell the product.
But the USANA products are not made available through retail channels or retail stores, but instead can only be obtained or purchased by a directly ordering it to the company or through one of its independent associates.
USANA or USANA Health Sciences, Inc., is one of the world top leading distributor of USANA Nutritionals (Essentials and Optimizers nutritional supplements), USANA Macro-Optimizer foods (drink mixes and nutritional bars), Sensé Basics and Enhancers (face, hair, and skin care products), and Rev3 Energy drinks.
USANA is also a multilevel marketing company that produces and develops various nutritional and skin-care products. Most USANA’s products are manufactured in the United States and sold and distributed in thirteen international markets.
The company also employs approximately 1,000 people worldwide, and has 176,000 associates and “preferred customers” in its worldwide distribution network. USANA has an approximate sale for 2007 was on a high of $427 million of which the 87% of sale was generated by associates, and 13% of sale was made by preferred customers. The company states that, as of 2009, its products are marketed in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Mexico, Malaysia and The Philippines.
