Antioxidants: Why We Need Them
Ten years ago, it used to be just vitamins and minerals, whitening creams and soaps that were flooding the lifestyle and diet network. However, as science had more and more discoveries, and as people became vainer and more health conscious, one of the more popular health-maintaining agents has been discovered which we call: Antioxidants. Although oxidation is a normal process of the body brought about by metabolism and everyday exposure to the environment, too much of it without a counter-action may bring about lots of unwanted consequences.
For a clearer understanding, we start by discussing that after oxidation of cells, free radicals are being formed. These free radicals are unstable molecules that create harm and damage to other cells which may result to bone, joint and tissue deterioration, weaker immune system, and the most known of all is early aging. So how does Antioxidant prevent or minimize all these? When Antioxidants get inside the body they neutralize these free radicals thereby preventing and minimizing the damage done and these antioxidants also have cell repairing properties. Not only this, but research has shown that in lab animals taking antioxidants, cancer cell formation has been reduced.
For most people, taking Antioxidants sounds like a luxury more than a need because of the aesthetic effects more often advertised. But, it is a fact that the easiest and most effective way of acquiring Antioxidants is through diet. Surprisingly there are a vast numbers of Antioxidant sources that is within our reach. Some of the most common are: corn, berries, carrots, grapes, garlic and tomatoes. And now we see that after all, Antioxidants is not just about resisting wrinkles and white hair, it has more beneficial effects to our health that will guarantee us a longer and happier life.
